This plant is native Banda Islands of Indonesia, is also grown in Penang Island in Malaysia and the Caribbean, especially in Grenada. It also grows in Kerala, a state in southern India. Other species include Papuan Nutmeg nutmeg malabarica. argentea from New Guinea, and Bombay Nutmeg malabarica from India, called Jaiphal in Hindi .
Nutmeg is now grown in tropical countries, and in the islands of Antilia. Known in India brought by the Hindus who had settled in Java and in the eastern part puIau.
